It's Just Hair

Why is it that for me, it is so hard to cut my daughter's hair off, or worse, have to cut it off because of an unfortunate incident that occurred with a pair of scissors? This was by no means the first time and heaven forbid, it won't be the last. Keith and I both have our suspicions that this time it was a conspiracy between Rach and Dustin. Whether is was, or not, Dustin did cut 2 sections of her hair, one on either side of her face. So, on Saturday Rachael finally got what she'd been asking me to let her do for a couple of months now, she chopped her hair off. And as she sat excitedly in the salon chair, Mom sat there trying to hold back her tears as more than 6 inches were wacked off of her beautiful, golden locks. What in the world is the matter with me? Anyway, here are some before and afters. I just keep trying to remember that her happiness is what's most important. After all, it's just hair, right?!?!?

Follow Up

I have another tale to add to my post from yesterday. This morning Claire was climbing (once again) on the kitchen chairs while I was cleaning the floor. Next thing I knew she was wailing and I looked over to see blood spilling out of her mouth. I suppose I'm lucky that blood doesn't bother me, just the thought that it's coming from my child. Anyway, to make a long story short; she has a cut on the inside of her upper lip about the length of a penny and a bruised, swollen mouth as well. The up side---no stitches needed, thank goodness! The down side, she was climbing again less than 30 minutes after it happened. What's a mom to do???

Our Claire Bear

In looking back over my posts I realized that I've written something about each of my kids but Claire. How fitting that over the past week or so she's been busy giving me plenty to write about. Claire is a climber, but not just a normal "I'm 17 months old and I'm going to climb all over the place because I can," she climbs with a purpose. Most of the time I can hear the bar stools and kitchen chairs moving across the floor and can get to her fast enough to prevent much damage. However, here are some examples of Mom just not being quick enough.

-Father's Day at my sister's house, she made it onto the kitchen table and promptly began eating the relish tray dip, minus the relish tray items (see picture).

-Yesterday I came upstairs to find that she had nearly emptied out the cupboard with all our cups and dishes in it. She was looking to get something to drink. I was grateful that nothing crashed and broke into a million little pieces.

-Also yesterday (about half and hour later) I came up the stairs to catch her on the kitchen table with the contents of my purse surrounding her. She had decided to decorate her outfit with the full set of postage stamps I had just bought. (no picture, I was too upset to grab the camera).

-Then this morning, into my purse again only this time my cell phone was her prize. I stopped her right before she dialed Keith's cell # (the last person I had called).

I'm a little apprehensive about what is to come. Still, it's so hard to stay mad at someone so cute. My heart can't help but melt when she comes up, hugs me and gives me a big grin followed by a "lub you, mama!" Even today as the kids and I were unloading groceries she wanted to help carry things into the house, "me hep, me hep" (me help). Of course I can't help but look forward to 2 o'clock when nap time rolls around. I get a good 2-3 hour break to help me gear up for the rest of the day. Bet you can't blame me for that.

I love you my little, stinky Claire-bear-ROO-ski!!!

Happy Belated Father's Day!

Here's to the best husband in the world. Thanks for making me laugh, making me happy and helping me to be the best person I can! But most of all, thank you for giving me the 4 of the most wonderful blessings in my life, our kid-li-winks. I hope you had a great Father's day. I love you!!!

Just a Warning....

Tonight Keith and I were outside tag teaming the trimming and mowing of the lawn. The kids, of course, were running from the front of the house to the back having a great time. I got a little into mowing and lost track of what Hillary was doing. Next thing I know, Rachael comes running towards me announcing that we're locked out of the house via Hillary. She had dead bolted the front door and turned the lock on the handle of the garage door then walked outside, closing the door behind her. After a messing with the kitchen window (which I luckily had opened earlier) we got the doors unlocked. I'm sure I'll look back on this in a few days and be able to chuckle. So, take care when you're outside with the kids, you never know when you might not be able to get back in!!!

What flavor are you?

This post is dedicated to all the members of the Braithwaite family. It should be very obvious why this little quiz is so darn funny. I never knew the power of ice cream until I married into the family. I can't believe of all the flavors out there I am most like vanilla. Although my personality does match the description, it is one of my least favorites. Let me know what flavor you all turn out to be. ENJOY!!!

Laundry Day

So, as Monday roles around I am once again sitting at home taking care of my family's dirty laundry. Having Monday as laundry day started back when Keith and I only had one car and Monday was the day he drove his carpool to work. Since I never made plans to do much on Monday's because of my lack of transportation, I dubbed that day laundry day. It's stuck with me to this very day only now with 4 kids, it's harder to get it done in one session. Lately Tuesday has become, finish the laundry day. However, today I realized how much more I like to laundry in the summer. The bulk of clothes is less and because the kids wear sandals, there are hardly any socks to fold (Wahoo). I might actually get it all done by bedtime and won't have stacks of folded clothes still sitting on my bed when I want to go to sleep. I know this post is a bit odd, but all you wives and mothers out there will relate and hopefully sympathize. Have a good day to all you out there!!
